Saving Texas Dance Halls, one two-step at a time!

TDHP in Action: Preserving Texas’ Dance Hall Heritage

As 2025 winds down, we’re proud to share how TDHP has been out in the community, supporting historic dance halls and the traditions they keep alive.

Festival of Texas Fiddling – Blanco, TX
From December 5–7, TDHP sponsored the Festival of Texas Fiddling at Twin Sisters Hall. This beloved event brought music lovers together and highlighted the vital role historic dance halls play in Texas culture.

Preservation Grants Making an Impact

  • Anhalt Halle, Spring Branch, TX: We presented a $10,000 grant to Germania Farmer Verein to help fund Anhalt Halle roof repairs and stabilize the stage's foundation. These improvements will allow the organization to continue hosting live music and community events for years to come. The photo on the right shows some of the stage's new foundation piers.

  • Pioneer Hall, Anson, TX: During the Texas Cowboys’ Christmas Ball, TDHP awarded $9,400 to replace leaky windows, protecting the hall from winter weather while preserving its historic charm.

These projects are a reminder that TDHP’s work extends beyond advocacy—we are actively ensuring these halls remain vibrant centers of community life.

Ways to Give Before Year’s End

As we close out the year, your support helps ensure Texas dance halls remain places where music, memory, and community continue to thrive. Every gift—large or small—helps protect these historic spaces for future generations.

TDHP
PO Box 150068

Give from Your IRA (Qualified Charitable Distribution – QCD)

If you are age 70½ or older, you may be able to make a tax-efficient year-end gift directly from your Traditional IRA using a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

A QCD allows you to:

  • Give directly from your IRA to TDHP
  • Potentially reduce your taxable income—even if you don’t itemize deductions
  • If you are age 73 or older, have the gift count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

How to make a QCD:
Contact your IRA custodian and request a Qualified Charitable Distribution payable to Texas Dance Hall Preservation. The gift must be sent directly from your IRA custodian to TDHP. Please ask that your name and contact information be included so we can properly acknowledge your gift.

Checks should be mailed to:
Texas Dance Hall Preservation
PO Box 150068
Austin, TX 78715-0068

We encourage you to consult your financial or tax advisor to determine whether a QCD is right for you.

Looking Ahead: Legacy Giving

As many supporters reflect on the year behind us and the future ahead, some choose to include Texas Dance Hall Preservation in their long-term plans. A legacy gift is a meaningful way to ensure Texas dance halls continue serving their communities for generations to come.

If you’d like to learn more, we’d be glad to talk with you. Contact: Jean Spivey, director@texasdancehall.org or 512-400-4315

Thank you for helping us close the year strong and carry this work forward.
Your generosity keeps the doors open, the floors sound, and the music playing.

Happy Holidays!
